Those Brothers, Sisters and family members reported ill, and/or injured these past months were all of the following:  Mariana Adeldano – ankle injury, Ken Cottle – had surgery, Aaron Copeland – back injury, Christi Fite – medical procedure, Viviana Fredrico – injured finger, Mary Gillespi – back surgery,  Aaron Hansen – wife in hospital, Dawn Hopson – robbed @ gunpoint on route,  Monica Jackson – illness,  Rafael Ortega – back injury, Robert Pena – Robbed @ gunpoint on route, Robert Rivers – wife in hospital,   Pete Rivera – foot injury, Trammond Smith – shoulder injury and Justin Stephens – knee injury.   We wish all a speedy recovery!

Motions Passed - November and December Branch Meetings 2023

November 2nd One Motion passed as follows:

MOTION – Rodney Anderson to send President Michael Barrett to COP meeting – Spring 2024 March 3-4, 2023, in Jacksonville, FL and that we pay airfare, hotel, per diem, transportation and miscellaneous expenses, Phillip Taylor seconded.

MOTION CARRIED

December 7th Seven Motions passed as follows:

MOTION – Doyle Langston to pay the Officers, Stewards and Alternate Stewards (who meet the eligibility requirements per the Branch By-Laws) $700.00 for four (4) days (contingent upon verification of Friday night hotel stay and signing sign-in sheet showing they attended NALC NBA Spring Training classes on Saturday (02/17/24), to be held February 16-19, 2024, in Woodlands, Texas, Manuel Herrera seconded.

MOTION CARRIED

MOTION – Doyle Langston, proposed that Branch 226 hire Miranda Miller to complete the end of year reports (LM-2, 990 and W2’s) for year 2023, the amount of $4,000, to be paid upon completion or filing of all reports, Keith Robertson seconded.

MOTION CARRIED

MOTION – Doyle Langston that Branch 226 send him to attend the 2024 Texas AFL-CIO COPE Convention to be held January 28-29, 2024, in Austin, Texas pay lost time, registration, per diem, mileage and hotel for two (2) nights, Keith Robertson, seconded.

MOTION CARRIED

MOTION – Felix Tijerina that we dispense with the December 28th Executive Board Meeting the January 4th Branch Meeting and that all members receive credit for said meetings, A D Cortez, seconded.

MOTION CARRIED

MOTION – Keith Robertson to accept the list of Delegates as Amended with the three (3) names added, seconded.

MOTION AS AMENDED CARRIED

MOTION – Doyle Langston to accept the proposed 2024 General Budget as printed, Linwood Durst seconded.

No less than Forty-Five (45) days before Election Day, the Secretary will publish in the Panther City Newsletter a Notice of Branch Officers. Notice will list date, position, place and manner of nomination and election.

No less than Forty-Five (45) days before Election Day, the Secretary will post a notice on Branch Bulletin Boards and the Branch website as well as a Notice will be mailed to retired members.  Notice will list date, position, place and manner of nomination and election.

When a proposed change in By-Laws is presented at Branch Meeting, it will be presented in Duplicate (typed or legibly printed) and read during the New Business Section of the Branch Meeting.

The Secretary will have the proposed change mailed within seven (7) days to all stations to be posted on Bulletin boards and printed in the next regular quarterly Panther City News Bulletin.

(approved by N.A.L.C. Committee of Laws 1/27/22)

This will be considered sufficient notification to the membership that the proposed change will be discussed and voted on at the next Regular Branch Meeting.

Effective January 1, 1992 that a Scholarship Fund be established in the amount of $500.00. To be awarded annually to a deserving member or immediate family member of Branch #226.

The application for the grant must be submitted to the Branch office beginning September 1, and no later than November 1, of the year the award is to be granted. The award will be made by a drawing from all approved applications during the December Branch meeting. This grant will be paid by check to the college or university of the winning applicant. These funds will be paid during the month of January of the year following the drawing.

Position of Editor of the Panther City Newsletter. This person shall be paid Fifty ($50.00) dollars per issue of the Newsletter. The selection process will be from a Committee of Three (3) Branch Members appointed by the Branch President. Interested parties should submit a resume for the position. (Approved February 2009 by N.A.L.C. Committee of Laws)
